Commis I – Pastry (Junior Pastry Chef)

Role Summary

A central pastry kitchen in Dubai is seeking a motivated Commis I – Pastry (Junior Pastry Chef) to join its kitchen team.

In this hands-on role, you will prepare and produce high-quality pastries, desserts, and baked goods for daily service, events, and special orders. Working under the guidance of the Head Pastry Chef, you will be expected to follow recipes precisely, maintain consistently high standards, and contribute positively within a fast-paced kitchen environment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, eager to learn, and passionate about developing a career in pastry.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare pastries, desserts, and baked goods according to established recipes and quality standards.

• Complete and maintain mise en place for daily production and service.

• Ensure consistency in the quality, taste, portioning, and presentation of all products.

• Assist with the development of new pastry items and seasonal menu updates.

• Monitor ingredient and supply levels and communicate restocking requirements.

• Follow all hygiene, sanitation, food-safety, and workplace-safety procedures.

• Assist the Head Pastry Chef with the planning and execution of events, buffets, and special orders.

• Support and guide other Commis or junior kitchen team members when required.

• Keep kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas clean, organised, and in good working condition.

• Perform other pastry-production duties as assigned by senior kitchen staff.

Qualifications and Experience

• Previous experience in a professional pastry, bakery, hotel, restaurant, or catering kitchen is preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to execute recipes consistently.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

• Basic knowledge of food-safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.

• Culinary or pastry certification is an advantage but is not required.

• Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and follow direction from senior kitchen staff.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining quality and organisation.

• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and operate kitchen equipment safely.
